Neutral Masks
Neutral Masks is a series based on a collaboration with Spencer Scheetz and his Drama class at George Mason University in 2014. The premise of this series is that all people hide their emotions behind masks. A neutral mask is a tool to hide facial expressions, so an actor must also use other parts of his/her body to establish a character. In this series Spencer uses a neutral mask in this collaborative story of a Character finding his way in the world, eventually finding his strength to advance.

We hide behind the masks we present to the world. This series explores an adventure where the Mask is visible.

The Character realizes he must go beyond The Mask and venture into uncharted, possibly risky, territory.

In fear of being found out, the Character reconnoiters the landscapes, searching for others who will understand him without judgement.

Growth requires Reaching Out beyond one's comfort zone. This is a new beginning...

Is the Character ready to throw off his mask or is it still not safe enough to open up to the world?

The Character, while retaining his mask, is still on the outside, looking in to a more rewarding life.

The Character has decided to risk it and he's on the brink of moving forward; he's realizing his strength from self-acceptance of who he is (and might be) and can now choose to drop the mask.
